Tell Me How 02:57
tomorrow's always hungry a void of no one knows yesterday's a mine field of all the should have dones tell me how you're so well dressed tell me how you're not a mess hair is turning white or falling on the floor while the world is getting warmer under threat of nuclear war tell me how you're so well dressed tell me how you're not a mess everyone you care for you'll watch dying or die unless you perish first leave them miserable and crying and when your number's up there's nothing left in store no afterlife, no resurrection just nothing forever more tell me how you're so well dressed tell me how you're not a mess

show me everything that you have to show i'll write you a book of everything i know the dedication reads 'to you, half of us all' the epilogue is blank a mystery we'll solve what's yours is mine what's mine is yours what's ours is ours even when it starts to hurt there are certain things i swore i'd never say even if that meant putting scars on my brain but medicine don't work if you don't let it in so i open up my insides let the healing begin what's yours is mine what's mine is yours what's ours is ours even when it starts to hurt tell me now - everything you've done tell me now - what fears you've overcome this year tell me now - anything that comes to mind i'll hear i'm here for you

hold you closest when it's midnight when the sun has forgot us blue waves abduct your posture and you're unsure what to trust you can trust that i love you my delicate bird dawn swears it's arrival daily but the clouds cast question light leaks that's grim and opaque casting gray on every hue don't let that color you my delicate bird if you're beside yourself i'll be beside you too if there's a saving grace i'll save some grace for you you'll never have to be alone
4.
you're the only CD that i'll play put you on repeat til i know your every note i don't mind the scratches on your back we all have cuts and scars and my heart, it skips a beat when your record skips a beat if you're shaken up always, always everything for you you're the tape stuck in my VCR i've seen a million times still i'm happy to rewind you're the only book i've ever read i've dog-earred every page because there's not one wasted word no conjunction, no adverb it's all paramount always, always everything for you i've heard there's other books and movies out there i heard i might like them very much but they don't know the first thing about you they won't do it's you i want i need always it's you i want i need
5.
The Doctor 02:53
if you're leaving don't say goodbye say until we meet again and it's okay you keep changing just don't forget who you were without witness without reward without hope to keep you company you stumble forward you change your face because you never learned to stop though i'm crying i force a smile putting on my bravest face it is like i'm malfunctioning at least that's what i think you'd say
6.
if influence pulls me under i might die or worse than that i'll turn into a prick and survive i'm burning daylight at night killing the moments before they are born to strike don't resurrect an echo of my last life i'm counting tiles on floors keeping myself mundane keeps the wolf kept at the door his lunar lupine visits can't go on no more if influence pulls me under i might die or worse than that i'll turn into a prick and survive i'm pushing daisies tonight there was burial held for my social life i can't say i miss them all that much i'm pacing circles downstairs i've seen the minute hand move in reverse, i swear i cannot tell if you don't believe or you don't care if influence pulls me under i might die or worse than that i'll turn into a prick and survive one more night one more night one more night i made it through one more night without you

don't let those spirits haunt you those bodies have gone cold forgive yourself my dear friend incinerate those bones kill them all kill them all vampires will feed upon you when you invite them in forever hungry for you come night the come again kill them all kill them all kill every evil thing your demons chase everywhere to mar your heart and soul it's time to forgive yourself you just gotta let it go let it go let it go kill them all kill them all kill every evil thing

Time 02:44
i pass the time one mistake at a time and here i stand a scar stained boy of a man time moves ahead it never stops for rest and it feeds on death and indifference i swear i hear it laugh in the echoes of my past i'm always in its grasp each move i make causes the earth to quake and cast doubt on the plans i had mapped out and i wonder 'have i done anything i should have done or was this all wrong?'
9.
i wonder where your true thought blooms how your lunar bruise trips into a tune with a simple call you parachute us all on sanctuary avenue i cannot decode your cool end how you decide which pain to extend how you come alive when you start to die on sanctuary avenue when you bark you wail you put your heart out there in the open to be torn apart you play the fife American how often the wheel turns with your hand come shred our deeds into blood red confetti on sanctuary avenue

about

Here we are, in 2019.
How about that.
Still breathing air, still making records.
This is being written on the first day of Autumn, the day this record is officially 'released'. It was a real snap judgment, having it realized on the equinox, but the record deserved a little bit of magic, and there's magic in this day.
This is the first project recorded (in full) in Pompous Lakes, my residence and musical happy place.

Pete played all the drums as usual (while simultaneously learning them in one instance, which doesn't make much sense but it's true), although Jeff only played bass on one track (Always, Always - it's pretty obvious as the playing is just better and more 'Jeff').

Official language is a reference to there not being an official language in America, and I think music does fit that bill. A de facto official language. On my dry erase board, 'Urban Americana' was written nice and bold, and I think that stands as the mission statement / genre of the vibe here. Lyrically, I suppose if there's any sort of overarching theme it's openness and growth. There are a few odes, a few love songs, and a few meditations on life.
